On the occasion of the 9th Italian Design Day in the World, dedicated this year to the theme "Inequalities. Design for a better life', the Italian Embassy in Tehran hosted an event to explore the role of design in reducing inequalities and their impact on well-being in everyday life.
As pointed out by Ambassador Paola Amadei, 'architecture, in particular, is that form of art that allows us to imagine and then concretely realise a new, more sustainable and more liveable reality, providing answers to both individual and collective needs. Accessibility to services, better design of spaces, increased environmental sustainability are co-ordinates at the basis of innovative projects and regeneration of urban spaces at the service of communities.
Through the presentation of some of his most important projects realised in Italy and around the world, Architect Paolo Brescia - who trained with Renzo Piano and is now a founding partner of the Open Building Research (OBR) studio - shared with some of Tehran's leading architects present at the event his interpretation of architecture's concrete contribution to combining aesthetic beauty and the reduction of inequalities in all their meanings.
The 2025 edition of the Day of Italian Design in the World was realised in synergy with the 24th edition of the Milan Triennale, the International Exhibition dedicated to design and architecture that this year will have the theme of inequality at its centre. Under the title 'Inequalities. How to mend the fractures of humanity", the Triennale's 2025 appointment - which will take place in Milan from May to November - aims to stimulate reflection on this topical issue and on design as a tool available to mankind to reduce inequalities and promote social inclusion.
