The sermon to be delivered at a mass celebrating the Jubilee of Deacons scheduled at 9 am Sunday at St Peter's Basilica has been prepared by Pope Francis even though he is hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli, the Vatican Press Office said on Saturday.
    The homily will be read by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, the pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization and Vatican organizer of the Holy Year on behalf of the pontiff.
    A reported 23 deacons will be ordained during the mass to be celebrated by the archbishop.
    Meanwhile, the pontiff is continuing to work while in hospital with the Vatican Press Office announcing in its bulleting several new appointments on Saturday.
    In particular, the pontiff named Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, archbishop emeritus of Warsaw, his special envoy to the celebrations for the 1,000th anniversary of the crowning of King Boleslaw Chrobry, scheduled to be held on April 26-27 2025 in Gniezno, Poland, also the year of the 1025th anniversary of the first Polish archdiocese and metropolitan see in the same city.
    The pope also accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Dakar, Senegal, presented by Archbishop Benjamin Ndiaye, who is retiring, appointing Bishop André Gueye, until now bishop of Thiès and apostolic administrator of Saint-Louis du Sénégal, as metropolitan archbishop of Dakar, the bulletin said.
    Francis received the resignation from the metropolitan archdiocese of Corrientes, Argentina of Archbishop Andrés Stanovnik, who has reached retirement age.
    He will be succeeded by Archbishop José Adolfo Larregain, O.F.M., until now coadjutor archbishop of the same archdiocese.
    Finally, the pontiff accepted the resignation from the the diocese of Maradi, Niger, of Bishop Ambroise Ouédraogo, appointing the Reverend Fr. Ignatius Anipu in his place, the bulletin said.
