US Secretary of State Marco Rubio
spoke with Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani
stressing the importance of the U.S.-Italy alliance to the
safety, security, and prosperity of the American people, State
Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.
"The Secretary and Foreign Minister Tajani discussed the
importance of real burden sharing among all NATO Allies", Bruce
explained in a note regarding the call which took place on
Sunday evening Italian time.
"They also talked about ways to further the U.S.-Italy
partnership through close collaboration on shared priorities
around the world".
Late on Sunday, Tajani wrote on X that he had had a "first, long
and friendly phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco
Rubio".
"Relations with the US are - together with Europe - the priority
of our foreign policy".
Speaking about the phone call, Tajani said there had been "full
strategic convergence on peace and reconstruction in Ukraine and
in Gaza".
"We want to work together in Africa, Latin America and the
Indo-Pacific to boost the West's unity", stressed Tajani.
Speaking about bilateral relations, the pair confirmed the
"relationship of trust" and the commitment to "intensifying"
commercial relations", wrote Tajani.
