There are at least 77 projects related to the development of technologies for the production of green hydrogen that the Chilean government will entrust to private initiative during 2025, with an investment potential worth a total of USD 25 billion. This emerged at a meeting organised in Santiago by Ice-Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalisation of Italian companies, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and Confindustria. The event, attended by the Italian Ambassador to Chile, is part of a mission involving 26 companies seeking opportunities in the energy, environment, infrastructure and transport sectors.
Detailing the opportunities in the field of green hydrogen was the director of studies at the Chilean Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile), Ricardo Rodríguez. The head of new energy studies at the Chilean Ministry of Energy, Angel Caviedes, highlighted the country's commitment to achieving zero emissions by 2050 by passing a framework law and offering further projects to private initiative.
Chile's potential was also highlighted by the director of the Ice office in Santiago Alessandra Marcarino "Chile has good economic prospects and Italian industry is already very present," she said, adding that in 2024 trade figures show that Italian exports to Chile will reach €2.23 billion, up 10 per cent from 2023. "More than half of Italian exports concern the machinery sector," he stressed.
