Italy was the protagonist at the 53rd edition of the Kiev International Film Festival 'Molodist', thanks to the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Ukraine.
The film "C'è ancora domani" by Paola Cortellesi, box-office hit in 2023 both at home and abroad, was screened to great public acclaim. The film is set in post-war Rome and follows the story of Delia, a housewife who, after receiving a mysterious letter, undertakes a journey to break away from the family role assigned to her by tradition, aspiring to a better future. "We are proud to be able to show the Ukrainian public the successes of contemporary Italian cinema: nurturing the cultural dimension is as important as ever in the difficult context that Ukraine is going through," said Ambassador Carlo Formosa, recalling how Cortellesi's film has gained great success in Italy and abroad not only for its direction and the actors' acting performances, but also for the originality with which it deals with highly topical issues, linked to patriarchal culture, gender violence and women's rights. "What's more, the film tells of an Italy that has just emerged from a disastrous conflict and is undergoing rapid democratisation and sensitive civil development: this is a positive message for the audience of a country at war," the Ambassador concluded.
Also representing Italy in the Festival programme were the short film 'A deer died here', by John Giordano, and the documentary 'In perpetuo' by Federico Barassi.
