The Milan bourse suffered big losses
on Monday amid investor concerns about the effect of United
States tariffs, which also hit Europe's other main stock
markets.
Milan's FTSE Mib index was down 2% at the middle of Monday's
trading session, making it the continent's worst performer.
Frankfurt and Paris were down 1.5% and London shed 1%.
Asian stock exchanges had slumped earlier on Monday with
investors finding shelter in safe haven assets such as gold,
which rose 1.3% to $3,114, and bonds, whose yields are falling
in the hope that central banks will continue to cut rates to
support growth.
