Third-seeded Italian duo Simone
Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori on Tuesday beat Portugal's Nuno
Borges and Francisco Cabral in straight sets of 6-4 and 7-6 to
book their place in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
They will face Sweden's Andre Goransson and Dutch player Sem
Verbeek who beat 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 El Salvador's Marcelo Arevalo and
the Croatian Mate Pavic, the top-seeded ATP in the men's doubles
and ITF world champions in 2024.
The Italian duo, who were finalists last year, previously
eliminated Germany's Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens in
the first round of the tournament and then Italy's Luciano
Darderi with Colombia's Diego Hidalgo and Spain's Pedro Martinez
with Jaume Munar.
Bolelli and Vavassori have so far never lost a set and won all
four tie-breaks played at the Melbourne Park.
